  • The specialist team of laboratory scientists contributing to the program expansion
    WA launches newborn screening for X-Linked Adrenoleukodystrophy 14 August 2026 Western Australia has taken a significant step forward in the early detection of rare diseases, with newborn screening for X-linked Adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) officially commencing on 3 August 2026. Delivered through a collaboration between the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), Office of Population Health Genomics (OPHG), and PathWest, the new screening program will enable babies born in Western Australia to be tested for the rare genetic condition shortly after birth.

    Supporting Chinese-speaking families through community connection 06 August 2026 More than 50 members of Perth’s Chinese community, including parents, grandparents and other community members attended a recent parenting forum in Ardross to learn about child development, mental health and the support services available to families across Western Australia.

    Australian-first parenting program comes to Perth 05 August 2026 An innovative nurse-led research project has brought an internationally recognised parenting program to Australia for the first time. Six Child and Adolescent Community Health (CACH) nurses recently completed specialist training in Growing Together, an attachment-focused parenting program designed to strengthen relationships between parents and their babies.

    Celebrating National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day 04 August 2026 Children, families, staff and volunteers came together on 4 August to celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, recognising the strengths, voices, cultures and identities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

    CAHS Ambassador supports a more inclusive future for young people 29 July 2026 Rachael Burns, one of the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) Community Ambassadors, is the advocate she wished existed when she was younger. Rachael grew up navigating mental health challenges, and subsequently, a world a that left her feeling broken. Many of her experiences of care deemed her 'complex' and 'unreachable'.

    Congratulations to our Stars of CAHS winners 17 February 2020 Las​t Friday, Aboriginal Health Worker Josie Ford from Armadale Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, was presented with her Stars of CAHS Award by CAHS Chief Executive Dr Aresh Anwar and PCH Foundation's Heiko Plange, representing our award sponsors. “Josie had an idea to create an Aboriginal health and wellbeing festival in response to the growing number of suicides in the Aboriginal community and she made it happen!     Expressions of interest open for new Midland Health Hub 11 February 2020 The Child and Adolescent Health Service has secured funding to build a community hub for children's health in Midland. The community hub will co-locate community health, mental health and other services in a ‘one stop shop’ approach. The intention for this first hub is in providing a contemporary designed facility that provides integrated and coordinated health services in partnership with key government and non-government collaborative partners.     Welcome to Neonatology 23 January 2020 Neonatology supports the sickest babies and infants in Western Australia through: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Perth Children's Hospital (PCH) King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), including the Special Care Nursery Neonatal Emergency Transport Service (NETS WA) Perron Rotary Express Milk Bank (PREM Bank), located at KEMH Neonatal Follow-Up Program Outpatient services Centre for Neonatal Research and Education.     Our stars of CAHS winners 21 November 2019 The Stars of CAHS Staff Awards recognise and celebrate employee efforts aligned with the CAHS values of compassion, collaboration, equity, respect, excellence and accountability. This quarter's winner was Jodi Mann, Neuromuscular Clinical Nurse at PCH.Jodie was awarded with the Stars of CAHS award in recognition of her demonstration of the CAHS value of excellence. Jodi's work has been fundamental in the instituting a life-changing treatment for our patients. Here are some words from her nomination: "Jodi runs our joint Neurology and Respiratory Neuromuscular clinic and has always been the key player in ensuring care coordination for this patient group. She exemplified all of the CAHS values when instituting a life-changing treatment for our patients.
