World First: Perth Children’s Hospital to be first in the world to trial new brain cancer treatment 01 February 2023 A world-first cancer treatment trial, tackling a rare and debilitating paediatric brain tumour, has commenced at the Perth Children’s Hospital. Adam Demb, the first Australian patient, will be joined by more than 30 other children across the world to trial a treatment for Adamantinomatous Craniopharyngioma (ACP) over the next two years. -

New Child Health Centre opens at Falcon Library and Community Centre 14 December 2022 Early childhood development has been further enhanced for residents of Falcon with the recent opening of the Falcon Child Health Centre consulting rooms at the Falcon Library and Community Centre. Previously housed at the Falcon Family Centre, the Child and Adolescent Health Service’s (CAHS) Child Health Nurse service has also now expanded from one nurse to two, with families able to make appointments from Monday to Thursday. “Doubling our Child Health Nurse capacity means more families living in and around Falcon can access vital early childhood health checks in their local area,” said CAHS Executive Director Community Health Sue Kiely. “Co-location within the library is also great for families. High tech camera provides researchers with a potentially powerful screening tool for premature babies 26 October 2022 Researchers in the Child and Adolescent Health Service’s Neonatal Unit at King Edward Memorial Hospital’s (KEMH) are leading an Australian first study to use powerful images of a baby’s eye as a window into their developing brain. The ‘Emubird’ study led by Neonatologist Dr Rolland Kohan has been made possible thanks to Telethon Trust funding for a handheld retinal optical device or camera that gives researchers a 3-dimensional view of the retina behind their eye.
